Saving children over saving face

For the sake of arguments, I have these processes of reasoning.

(1) No matter how 'tiny' the percentage of alleged to be pedophiles among all priests in the Church, this is not a supporting argument. One is still too much.

(2) Certainly, the media report the acts of our priests with different intentions. However, we could not express complaints about their 'tilt' to the opposite side. All other people have no obligation to report in our favor.

(3) Comparing the wrong doings of our Church with that of other professions is another reasoning trap. Wrong means wrong. Other wrongs do not make us right. We always have higher expectation to the Church among others.

(4) When our head of state gives a speech with typo from his secretary, he takes the responsibility. This, the burden of leadership, seems 'fair' to all people. And the higher rule is : the buck stops here.

When we give our expression of scandals, we have to be very careful in reasoning. We have to give the public a perception : Saving children over saving face.

作為教友一份子,對於教會的性醜聞,當然感同身受;「愛」這個字有相當重量,不輕易出口,教友愛我們的教會,當然包括它的好與壞、對與錯。見其好的、對的,大家當然歡天喜地,遇其壞的、錯的,縱然不如外人的一般指責,但勸戒和責難則是教友們的責任。

但當我們面向公眾,要為教會解釋時,無論是用詞、用語,都要恰當,他們當中實在有一大群真正的的受害人。

聖經如此教導我們,救人更勝於祭獻,那麽,拯救兒童便更勝於挽回面子(Saving children over saving face)。

既然主耶穌當年選出有3次不認主的伯多祿作為宗徒及教會之長,我們應當相信,即使世人們如何差勁,教會,這隻方舟都會駛向最終的天國,這是信德應在之處。
