Re: Academic use of copyrighted material

While 洲立影視 is willing to negotiate, I think it is relatively simply for RTHK to just slap a Creative Commons licence on their programs (most likely a Attibution/non-commerical one, maybe with ShareAlike thrown in if necessary), and the situation should be solved. Academic use of such material are almost always non-commerical, and the licence will guarantee no harrassment from distributors towards the education sector.

Of course, this is Hong Kong, and the institution that is RTHK won't even start to grasp what these new ideas are, but it should be a start for them to solve the mess. If RTHK's goal is just to make money off its programs, then I have nothing more to say.

公民參與及知識流通

如果該公司能從善如流，實在是好事．

這次事件正好說明，知識及資訊流通（特別是公營機構的）不應盲目地以商業知識產權形式運作，當中誰應豁免，誰應付多少錢，如何付費及如何豁免，都應該可以在公眾裡討論．

通識教育的教材

這次事件，正好給我用來作為通識的教材呢。

但話說回來，港台的etvonline好像也在搞通識教育網(http://www.liberalstudies.tv)，很多中學的通識老師都會用港台的節目作為教材，如果動輒要付出數以萬計的版權費，相信推行通識科會寸步難行。

然而，據我所知，發行商也有向中學寄發銷售單張，好像曾說會豁免中學在校內使用作為教材的費用。
