Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) is now hiring for an Administrative Assistant (based in the US) and a Senior Researcher/Research Associate (Based in HK).

Part-time or full-time administrative assistant wanted

Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders (http://crd-net.org), a small non-profit organization working on capacity-building projects and human rights monitoring, is looking for a part time or full time administrative assistant based on the US north-east cost.

The appropriate candidate will be bilingual in Chinese and English, with good writing ability; have excellent generally administrative and computer skills (Word, Excel, Web applications); have some familiarity with the human rights situation in China; be strongly self motivated and able to take initiative; and be able to work under deadline pressure.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting the director and official manager on miscellaneous administrative tasks, including maintaining a website, maintaining mailing lists, administering events, organizing files, office chores and occasional translation work.

Percentage of time: between 50% and 100%, flexible.
Compensation: Percentage time pro rata calculated on the basis of US$35k - $40k/year, depending on experience and skill.
Start date: Preferably immediate, but negotiable, initial contract: one year, with a 2-month probationary period.
Location: the person will largely work from his/her own home.

Senior Researcher/Research Associate

Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders (http://crd-net.org), a small and dynamic non-profit organization working on capacity-building projects and human rights monitoring, is looking for a part-time or full-time Senior Researcher or Research Associate.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have:
• excellent capacity and solid experience in research;
• excellent English (especially written English);
• good working Chinese (including the ability to understand Mandarin Chinese and simplified characters);
• good computer skills (Word, Excel and Web applications);
• strongly self-motivated, able to take initiative, work under tight deadlines, flexible about work hours and good teamwork skills; and
• preferably based in Hong Kong.

For the position of the Senior Researcher, in-depth knowledge of international human rights and China’s human rights situation as well as some working experience with human rights NGOs is required.

For the position of the Research Associate, solid knowledge of international human rights and China’s human rights situation is required.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for both the Senior Researcher and the Research Associate will include:
• conducting research and editing research reports;
• drafting press releases and calls for urgent action; and
• editing periodical news updates.

The Senior Researcher will report to the International Director. Working closely with the Research Coordinator, the Senior Researcher will advise on and direct our research and be responsible for the quality of all our English publications.

The Research Associate will also report to the International Director. S/he will be assisting the Research Coordinator and will be responsible for undertaking more translation and other research-related logistical tasks.

Percentage of time
Part-time: 50% - 70% (i.e. 20 -30 hours/week), or full-time (40 hours/week). Flexible working hours.

Compensation:
For Research Associate: $35k - $40k/year pro rata; for Senior Researcher: $45k-$50k/year pro rata. Compensation will be dependent on experience and skills.

Start date:
Preferably immediate, but negotiable, initial contract is one year with a 2-month probationary period.

Location:
The person will largely work from his/her own home though s/he might be required to travel.
