有緣到訪瑞士,發現那裏每個城市都劃出一個舊區(old town),把區內的舊建築(包括民居、教堂)原貌保留。在舊區蹓躂,在孤寂中感受古蹟的百年孤傲,會感到豁然開朗,此生不枉。
不說歐洲,單是鄰近的澳門,其建築群最近也成為世界遺產了。那麼所謂「亞洲國際都會」的香港呢?
我很希望,香港也有一個妥協版本的old town,不一定原區保留(必遭反對,無謂嘥氣),只要將戰前建築列為永久古蹟,把有文化歷史價值的舊建築(如石硤尾邨)重新規劃(如改建成博物館、藝術中心),便能為後世千百年的旅遊業帶來無可估量的收益。
抱著這個心願,我希望「重建」舊區記憶,讓大家「重見」舊區面貌。
第一站,是深水埗。
我一住十七年,然後在深水埗拍拖五年,時有重訪。如果我要重建一個舊區的記憶,不作他想。
回憶不屬於少年,但也不應限於老人家。老年才回憶,看得太化,道來只有老人家有共鳴。反而在這個年頭,見盡三十年香港變遷,多了一份沉著去回顧,順道批判反思,用那道介乎烈火與文火間的中火,填補無回憶與看化之間的空白。
香港的地產發展得太快,今日回憶一個社區,我們還能踏足細看十年八載,待老時回憶,就只餘舊照片可供追思。別忘記,我們的政府專事填海、拆古蹟、消滅文化遺產和助長地產發展,而我們的社會樂見其成。
套一句大陸官話:就讓這群尚在人間的建築耆英,發揮餘熱。

劃出一個舊區
Where have you been in CH? It is very nice to wander in the small towns there.
In fact, they didn't really mean to '劃出一個舊區', just most of the old town areas are the most energetic commercial centre or city centre. A lot of the developments have been done surrounding the old towns, and in some citis (like Lucerne) they even have a 'new town' side next to old town.
I just don't get why so many HK people always think that 'old' means lack of energy, lack of life. Even the red light districts and night life facilities are around the old towns, while new towns are usually just for business things......

Totally agree. Too sad. I am so jealous of Macao lately, as I don't see anything which they have is really special, we HAD them all, and even more!!!
How funny that a government like to pour money into the sea......
By the way, your suggestions reminded me of Dr. Hilary duCros (It doesn't look right, maybe I spelt it wrongly???). Have you also read her papers?
