「世貿協議對病人獲得所需藥物的影響：中國探討」研討會

The
Sixth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO MC6) will be
held in Hong Kong in mid-December.
On behalf of Médecins Sans Frontières Hong Kong (MSF-HK), I am writing to
sincerely invite you to join us in the seminar “WTO
TRIPS & Access to Essential Drugs: A Focus on China”, which is
jointly organised by MSF-HK, the Global Studies (GLOBS) programme of the
University of Hong Kong and the Medical and Health Research Network of
HKU.

Under the threat of an
Avian flu outbreak and potential human to human transmission, countries over the
world are rushing to stockpile the drug Tamiflu. The patent of Tamiflu and how
to overcome patent barriers are of worldwide concern. At the same time, lots of patients in
developing countries still lack the access to essential drugs for many other
diseases.

With the WTO MC6 to be held next month, we want
to explore why barriers to essential and affordable medicines in developing
countries exist, how WTO impacts the access to essential medicines and what
steps can be taken to overcome the barriers. The seminar will focus on the
patent-based drug development process as an obstacle to essential medicines
accessibility in China.<!--
