大人生性愛嚼舌，小孩卻偏要直接。 東京近郊挨在一起的幾家平房，幾個家庭主婦因為儲蓄合作社的供款不知所蹤，東家長西家短的好不熱鬧。 淘氣小兄弟要買電視，父親不依罵嘴多，小孩口吐真言：你們廢話更多。 小兄弟沉默抗議，對象除了家人，連鄰居、同學、老師都無一倖免。 小津像要給自己和大家開玩笑似的，以肅穆的神情講一個風趣的故事，還煞有介事的搞放屁笑話。 一部絕對幽默的警世寓言，成全了《我出生了，但...》開拍之初的意願。

Two boys beg their parents for a television set, nagging them until all patience is lost. The parents order the boys to be quiet and the boys do exactly that--refusing to utter a word. The boys' silence ultimately puts the whole neighborhood into turmoil. This movie takes a look at a very Westernized suburban Japan in the late 50's. It demonstrates the power of speech and the way in which small talk acts as a lubricant for our daily lives.
