Recruitment: English Editor & Research Assistant

Two positions available at leading human rights NGO Human Rights in China (HRIC) for committed, energetic, and careful professionals in our Hong Kong office.

Candidates must be committed to HRIC mission and interested in working in a friendly, high-energy, collaborative trilingual NGO that insists on the highest professional and public-interest standards. Candidates must be well-organized, detail-oriented, cooperative, and independent, comfortable handling multiple tasks.

Salary commensurate with experience; HRIC offers an excellent benefits package.

ENGLISH EDITOR
Responsibilities will include substantive editing as well as copy-editing of articles, reports, press releases and translations.

Qualifications

* The candidate must hold a B.A. or equivalent; s/he must have native fluency in English and experience working as an English-language editor;
* Chinese language a significant plus.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Responsibilities will include:

* Supporting research work on a wide range of thematic issues covered by the organization through monitoring mainland newspapers, Websites, journals, and other sources, and producing periodic news and other updates;
* Supporting the drafting of submissions to the United Nations and other bodies;
* Developing HRIC information databases, including for news sources, laws and research outputs.

Qualifications

* The candidate must hold a B.A. or equivalent and have experience in law, journalism or other relevant professional experience;
* The candidate must be fluent in English and Chinese, with familiarity of both traditional and simplified characters; fluency in spoken Mandarin is also a plus;

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in and knowledge of and interest in database development, including experience with technologies such as Microsoft Access, MYSQL, and SQL Server; the candidate should also have working knowledge of Chinese language encoding issues.
