Topic 1: Intellectual Property in China-Legal Rules and Reality

The presentation will outline the amended system of patent, copyright and
trademark protection in China in the light of the worldwide IP development.
It will further discuss the present problems regarding IP enforcement in the
light of China's general legal development and perception of law.

Speaker:
Peter Ganea
Peter Ganea is head of the East Asia Department of the Max Planck Institute
for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law in Munich. His main
fields of interest are economic analysis of IP law and the IP in the light
of development and transformation. He is co-author of a book on Intellectual
Property in China that will be published in summer 2005 (Kluwer Publishing
House)

Topic 2: Licensing of Music Copyright in HK -
The Practice, the Latest Issues and the Impact of International Development

By nature, music copyright is a complicated subject. Use of music may entail
various copyright clearance with different parties. The advent of modern
technology has opened new platforms where music is utilised. However, it has
not yet created a simpler life for copyright settlement. In response,
copyright owners in Hong Kong have made some moves with a view to
facilitating music licensing and to safeguarding their interests at the same
time.
