We need to distinguish those rebel in according to the formula given by the mass media, teenager magazine, TV stylish kind of rebel, popular hero and those rebel because of independent thinking, probably against the public opinion. The former is not 'Rage against the machine' or 'Rage against the communist community---bondage' type, they do that just to become more popular, get more girls and improve there social status among their peers. I am not saying those are necessarily exclusive, I just try to describe in general case what happen.
Rebel is popular in a sense, in evolutionary terms that showcase the courage, intelligent and health of the gene of the rebel. And in a herd-like society like HKSAR, any dissidence is welcomed by teenage as directed by 'Kill the father' complex(殺父情結、兩代衝突).
I spoke that because I had first hand experience how being that kind of rebel felt like, so I got the girls and highest regard among the peers. That, however, doesn't necessarily translate to support and implementation of proposed structure change. Therefore my dissidence is probably a value just in the act itself, not the process nor the consequence.
All in all, this only demonstrate the state of mind of the writer and why she is in love with who she in love with. Or in converse, why the person in love with her because she is a rebel in the school(sort of).
BUTTTT since we already have, i just want to add one thing - surely there isn't a moses in every class, and a lot of 'rebels' in schools rebel against the most silly trivial little thing that might not necessarily be worthwhile
but they're just kids - and it's the spirit that they have - the guts to say no to authority even at that young age - that i'm talking about - that's what it takes to lead your people out of egypt
those with this spirit might grow up finding more worthwhile things to fight for, or they might still remain rebellious for all the wrong reasons and towards all the wrong targets, or they might lose the spirit. but without it in the first place, nothing can be done

I rebel therefore we exist?
Then these rebels are really exceptionally rare or even non-exist in most schools.
