Hong Kong people may just lack the sex drive. Or have prohibition when it come to sex....

Or just not good at getting into the "mood for love"....

There is something lacking. Why not think about how the society view women who like sex? Who not only have healthy sex drive, not exercise their desire by having sex?

The society have forbidden sex for young women who don't want to get married, at least not yet.

University students who have sex become news. This is the anti-sex society Hong Kong people are living in.

And while we are on the subject. Why don't men think it is fine to pay for sex, while condamning women who do it for free?

Of course, the ant-sex over-conservative-right-wing-Christian-Church-dogma didn't really help. If it is up to them, everyone would be wearing chasity belts.

First, let's stick to free agents (single men and women).

Well, culturally, women seldom pay for sex. Actually to the local sex workers rights NGO, there are really few and in-between women customers.

But that is the minority.

For the majority, why don't they have sex? Japan, like Hong Kong, is let of space. Lovers still check themselves into motels.

I think it is the anti-sex atmosphere that lead to this situation.

Women have learned to not to ask for sex, or to even express sexual desire. I have heard that once the men have sex with their partners, they no longer treasure them as much. (The virgin and slunt images of woman for many local men).

If that is true, (and for the fun of it, let's pretend it is somewhat true in this situation), not permitting women expressing their sexual desire, and labelling men that express their sexual desire as "salty and wet" (don't ask me to explain that because I simply don't know), would lead to lack of initiation of sex.

Don't you think it is the case? Or is it all because I hanged out with a group of overly educated but under sex Hong Kong friends.

So what is your answer?

I do think it is the Upper/Middle class women who seems to achieve to the status closer to men's.

But Hong Kong is far from Gender equal. And when it come to sex, due to the cultural restriction, even the women who have status have only the power to say No to sex, and not yes to sex.

For the women in far less equal relationship, the have little power to say no, but could still not express their own desirable "yes", when it is not agreeable to the men they are with.

It really make me laugh that you think that women status is "high" in Hong Kong because you think women could make a pass at men and not the reverse (not true btw).

First, women rights status (香港的女權) is not really that high in Hong Kong. For working women, they still have to bear the burdens of housework on top of the work they have to do. Women in managerial positions are relatively low when compare to men in Hong Kong.

Second, either man or woman who think that he/she has been sexually harassed, could report to their boss or the Equal Opportunity Commission. The Sex Discrimination Ordinance in Hong Kong is gender neutural.

What do working women have to do with anything, except you think that just because they are working, they are "overly confident" (but still don't know how you could jump to this conclusion, when it seems not to be linked.)

But there is a study of Hong Kong men that they are really overly confident, and lack gender equality concept.

I don't think women believe that it is easier for women to chase after men. Due to the very conservative and narrow gender roles concept, it is still men who have more "rights" to initial sex than women. It has nothing to do with the confident of women (professional women or not make little difference), but everything to do with gender inequality.

If the Hong Kong culture accepted the fact that there is such a thing called gender equality, there would probably more sex happening in Hong Kong.

And don't forget the anti-sex, pro-gender-inequality Christian Church teachings in Hong Kong.

Not really, actually Church anti-sex teachings have much more damaging effects in Hong Kong when compare to Muslims. That may deal to the fact that there are fewer Muslim in Hong Kong, and they don't try to "push" their stand to non believers like those anti-sex-Church-goers do.

Not until you could prove it. And by the way, US has a lot of entertainment too, in term of television channels, theatres, plays, concerts etc. They still rank at the top of having frequent sex. So having other form of entertainment would not really affect the rate of couples having sex.

Men and women are equal in rights. Being different biologically is no excuse for inequality.

The same excuse have been used for excusing racist behavior, sexist behaviors, and all other form of prejudice and discrimination.

third world countries usually have higher birth rates, but their gender relation is very unequal. birth rates is not equal to sex rate.

but i don't think both can stand alone as indicator of gender equality.
