Yang2 reporting of Today (about Loy)

Dear All,

To report on today as far as I know:
(backward chronological)

Loy came out of the police station in Sheung Wan around 1115pm. She spoke to the press briefly. She is fine physically and emotionally. Just a bit cold due to falling temperatures on the harbor front. Two of us gave their sweaters out.

I arrived at the police station around 1700. SEE network’s friend is already there. She was the only one inside the police station trying to talk to Loy, but police wouldn’t allow that. I asked that I be allowed to enter the station, so as to support Loy, even just spiritually. I was told by a police inspector 20407 that I couldn’t go in because ‘There are too many people inside.’ I knew from SEE that there is only one person inside. I was also told by 20407 that I could go in only if I am making a report to the police. I asked why. He said it’s for security. I said, ‘isn’t the police station supposed to be the safest?’ He and another constable replied, yes. And that’s why we have to protect the police station. I said, ‘ I thought police is here to protect the citizens, not just themselves.’ He said, ‘ only lawyers are allowed in.’ SEE has asked the kind help of lawyers from Ada’s office and they came at around 1800. They had been with Loy until Loy came out at around 2300.

Many supporters either from the Star seige last nite or from other units came to support Loy outside of the police station. At times, slogans were chanted to demand the release of Loy and to declare petitioning is not a crime. Banners were also displayed.

Earlier, I got a call from ger around 1530 that police are clearing the site. Soon afterwards, I got a call from a media friend. We sent out sms to tell people to call in live to commercial radio station so that the latest situation of ‘purging’ could be broadcast.

Around ten friends supporting the authentic star went up to CGO to join the press briefing Michael Suen called for at noon. When the press briefing was done (with SEE representatives and media activists asking questions, clearly and intelligently), we started shouting slogans and display a banner by hand. Security guards tried to stop us. We tried to block Suen’s way because we wanted him to meet us, and we wanted to express our ideas to him. Eventually, he was guarded out of the press site. Activists were interviewed by the press thereafter.

We got the news about Suen’s briefing at around 1130am at the Star site. A number of us decided to go there. At the same time, an elderly lady tried to hand some bread to petitioners inside the demolition site. Police tried to stop her. Many of us rushed to the support of the elderly lady.

Earlier in the day, some of us at the site did interviews with the press following up on the story.

One thing to add: when I was in the police station (police allowed only one person to be inside in support of Loy. A group of about 20 supporters remained outside, in the wind and rain, to support Loy), a police inspector (again, ‘Sam Tiu Chai’) chatted with his colleagues, and I quote:

‘I saw my daughter one day demonstrating on the streets and I was on duty. I struck her on her face. I was so angry. I pay $7000 every month for your university education, and you are studying “SEE PIN” (diapers)...i would say young people should rather join a triad society than the Federation of Students.’

For me and Loy inside, this talk is first, symbolic violence, second, tactful use of negative Public Relations to suppress our morale, and third, sad reality, that our law-enforcing agents have such a stereotypical view of ‘danger’, ‘threat’, and ‘nuisance’.

There is a lot of education work to do, a lot to learn.

May peace be with you all. Good rest. Sweet dreams.

Innovated Protest wins Support

Will there be a Male Stripper Night in front of the Pier tonight Dec 15 2006?

Useless to just sit down or holding hands or climbing up and down or hanging slogan or shouting slogan. Candle Night and Tears are not effective.

Be innovative please. HK government is accused for having no new ideas or new approaches. What about you guys? Can't you think of some new and meaningful and influential campaign?

Let's have a Naked Night. Ask all handsome young men line up in front of all the media and then put off their clothes piece by piece until their hard hot erection are presented in front of the whole world.

The government and the police and Mr. Tsang will be very shameful and embarassed. The public will pay sympathy onto you protesters.

Scholars and Law Makers will rethink the discourse of Public space vs Private space and Public Memory vs Private rights.

The whole campaign will turn into a new debate in the academic world and in the critical theory circle. Reporters will chase after those professors and scholars to ask them to decode and interpret all the symbolic meanings. HK people will gain more intellectual benefits.
The whole academic world will focus on HK and a new academic and critical theory movement will start from HK.

If those handsome young men can shave their pubic hair and leg hair in front of the pier,
the symbolic meaning will be much stronger that the demolition of the Clock tower is just like shaving away our public area (pubic hair) and legend (leg hair).

Looking forward to seeing those handsome young men magificant erection and manhood.

Be generous of all your gorgerous naked bodies, my dear handsome young men.
