If you choose to study for interests and knowledge, there is nothing stopping you. I guess there are still cultural studies, philosophy, pure science subjects offered by various universities in Hong Kong, right? 呢唔功利啦啩, 但如果唔用公開試成績, 位少學生多請問如何選學生呢又?I appreciate that it would be fun to study in the different schools of ancient Greece, but that's history. Not feasible in modern times.
Educaton in HK is totally sick!
Not the first time saying this......
Most secondary students I know nowadays think of going to school only as an obligation, and the responsibilty in school as a good student is just to get high marks instead of to really learn anything. This thought and everything in our education system has destroyed all their interests in study.
None of them likes going to school. For them, they even don't see a choice. It is a pity how many souls we have been killing by this sick system. And we are also killing our own future, on this land, our land, HK, as people and students who have stopped to like learning means the end of thinking. I can tell one student that studying is fun, is meaningful, not a torture, I can also tell two, but I can't tell a thousand of them, I can tell all...... The only 'benefit' they can relate to by studying is to 'pass the exams'. By hating exams (which is probably normal), they naturally hates going to school.
I don't expect to see everybody as enthusiatic as I am when come to knowledge absortion, just my heart aches when I see a hopeless new generation.
Why studying is for earing money???
That is a myth I can't understand! I love studying, and I don't know why I have to study something only for the 'use' in getting better paid or for a better job in the future......
I understand and quite agree, cc.
BUT, whenever I tell people the subject I am going to study for my MA, the first response of them were normally: 'what can you do after that? / Wht career can come out of that?', regardless the nationality and cultural background of that person. I mean, I know it is not a profession which I am going to study, but does studying and self-satifaction have to relate to 'job or career'???
Just I feel blue when I see how UNIVERSAL this idea of 'studying more to get a better job' concept is......
(joke only)

The people who aked me that particlar questions included:
numerous Hong Kong Chinese, several overseas Chinese, one or two mainland Chinese, (maybe one Taiwan Chinese as well,) one Swiss Polish, one German, etc.
I mean, a lot of them didn't even ask me 'so, exactly what will you be studying about?' FIRST!!! I mean, it was like, they didn't even know what I would be studying before they challenge my decision.
If they were polite enough, they would say that this is an interesting subject, while some simply directly criticised me that I wanted to continue study simply because I didn't want to start working and waht to escape from reality!!! What should I say???
Frogstic,
tourism
Tourism? Finished la!
Well, my BA is in Tourism (first hon, hehee... :-D), but I am going to study for an MA in Intercultural Studies, which in my opinion, is much more interesting.
Then, you see, that is the response of the others when they hear about my subject, AI!
To Frostig,
