I had the same questions you are having some time ago, and because it is something important to me, so I spent time and effort to find out. Maybe it is because I am a science student, before finding out the whole truth, I can only claim: I do not know. I cannot say God is real, or God is not real, because I have not find out the answer.

So I spent 3 years, went to 3 different churches, the Church of Christ, The Church of Holy Way in SF, Catholic Church, if there is a God, why were there so many churches? During those 3 years, I tried my best to study their practice, general church history, differences in theology. However, by the end of those 3 years, I couldn't find the which church was a better way to bring me closer to God, and I continued to pray to God if He's there. During the study, there was one incident which caught my attention, there were some special phenomenon happened to other people, but I couldn't feel it. So again, I couldn't say those phenomenon was true or not.

One day, I went to another conference, people were praising with songs etc. After about an hour, the pastor started to pray for the Holy Spirit, and I started to pray on my own... nothing happened, then I said, "Lord, I know that you wanted me to come, so I am here, if this is not the right time, I will wait again until the day I die..." suddenly, my back felt v. warm, and I though the sun shine from the window shined on me but it was indoor and it wasn't the case, so I neglected it, then my back, my head felt like sun ray shinning on it. My heart were touched for no reason, e.g. when we went to see movie, if it was a love story, the characters were killed in accident, we might be moved by the story and tears may come, but for my case, nothing happened, still the heart was full of that feeling, tears came down with no logical reason. Slowly I moved my head up and saw that the preacher was in tears as well. Oh???? Was it for real??
Suddenly my hands started to shake, and I prayed in heart, "Father thank you!!! (for showing me)" and my hands went faster... then slowed down... I prayed again, "Thank you Father!!!" and my hand moved faster. That was the first time I realized, all of my prayers, even prayed in heart only, no sound, not only God can hear it clearly, He could also answer me in no delay...

It happened to me in church (building) but later on, one of my friend told me, it happened to her while she was reading at home. It happened not only within one church, but in different churches.

I have seen other miracles, e.g. my friend was having a tumor at her womb... after a group prayer, she felt heat, and later on the doctor could only find a burn mark from the exam.

The only thing left to be said is, I spent 3 years with my best effort in order to see it, and it was granted by His will. Many people may not believe it, but the rule is, He didn't just pop up and make people fear, and He is not an entertainer either. If you are willing to find out, I would ask how serious are you? If you're serious, you will find out that He is even more serious than you do.

There are many things which are encrypted. If we do not spend effort to find out, we would never understand, e.g. air is made up of air molecules.
